One of the first and most important upgrades to any paintball maker is an aftermarket barrel or barrel system. With so many types and brands to choose from, all claiming ball on ball accuracy and self cleaning technology, it's hard justify spending $100+ on a barrel.
That's how I discovered the J&J Ceramic Series Barrel, at under $30 and in sizes from 10"-16" it's a value you can't beat.
The barrels are aluminum, ceramic coated, and teflon impregnated.
This gives them light weight, durability, and a slick interior. This is one of the only barrels I've used (out of over 50) that is truely self cleaning.
I bought a 14" Ceramic Series for my ULE X-mag and went to work at a 12h Scenario event in Davis, CA.
After shooting cases upon cases of paint through without a single break, I was finally able to get a single Karnage TEAR to snap about halfway down the barrel. The next shot went wild left - about the same as my spyder would with it's clean stock barrel. The very next shot was right where it should be, and the next, and so on down the line. I was truely suprized. As much as I tried over the next few weekends of pratice and events I was only able to get a few more barrel breaks, that cleaned out just as easliy. I don't even carry a squeegie on me anymore.
I'm supper anxious to try thier EDGE kits with varying bore sizes, J&J has left an impression on me and my game :)
PROS: truely self cleaning, porting, price
CONS: No choice of colors or bore sizes
ACURACY: **** (you don't get any more accurate than an automag with a J&J)
WEIGHT: *** (aluminum makes it light)
LOOKS:*** (the ceramic coating is flawless, and the clean simple design is great for both scenario and tournament)
VALUE:***** (a light, acurate, high quality barrel for $30? awesome
